Luna Moth

07/09/09

more: Luna Moth

Also known as the "Giant Silkworm Moths", These moths have a wingspan of four and a half inches! Luna Moths have a white body, pinkish legs, and huge pale green wings. The hind wings have eye spots and long tails.

They fly, only at night, in Spring and early Summer.

I found this guy (you can tell it's a male by the bushy antenna) on the Bald Cypress trail, just past the trail center.

I love luna moths... I found one in Northern NJ a few years ago and have it displayed in a case on my desk.
